This Privacy Policy explains how CSVEngine ("CSVEngine", "we", "us", or "our"), operated by CSV Engine, collects, uses, shares, and protects information in connection with the CSVEngine website and application located at csvengine.com (the "Service"). It also describes the choices and rights you have regarding your information.
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Who We Are
CSVEngine is a web application that helps individuals and freelancers import, map, clean, deduplicate, and process spreadsheet data from CSV and Excel files. For the purposes of data protection laws, CSV Engine is the "controller" of the personal information described in this Policy, except with respect to the data contained in files you upload, where we act as a "processor" on your behalf (see Section 5).

2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide to Us
- Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and profile information. If you sign in using Google, we receive basic profile details (such as your name, email address, and profile image) from your Google account in accordance with the permissions you grant.
- Payment information. When you subscribe to a paid plan or purchase credits, payments are processed by our third-party payment processor. We do not collect or store your full payment card details. We may receive limited billing information such as your billing name, the last four digits of your card, card type, and transaction history.
- Communications. If you contact us for support or otherwise correspond with us, we collect the information you choose to provide, such as your email address and the contents of your message.
2.2 Files and Data You Upload
The Service allows you to upload, import, and process files such as CSV and Excel spreadsheets. These files and the data they contain (collectively, "Customer Data") may include personal information about you or about third parties, such as your own contacts or clients. We process Customer Data on your behalf and in accordance with your instructions, solely to provide the Service. Our handling of Customer Data is described in more detail in Section 5.
2.3 Information Collected Automatically
- Usage data. We collect information about how you interact with the Service, such as the pages and features you use, the actions you take, the date and time of your activity, and the import operations you perform.
- Device and log data. We automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, and referring URLs.
- Cookies and similar technologies. We and our service providers use cookies and similar technologies to operate and secure the Service, remember your preferences, and understand usage. See Section 6 for more detail.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, maintain, and improve the Service;
- Create and manage your account and authenticate your access;
- Process transactions, manage subscriptions and credits, and send related billing information;
- Respond to your inquiries and provide customer support;
- Monitor and analyze usage, trends, and performance to improve features and user experience;
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent, unauthorized, or illegal activity, and protect the security and integrity of the Service;
- Send you administrative and service-related communications, such as updates, security alerts, and changes to our policies;

Where required by applicable law, we rely on the following legal bases to process your personal information: performance of our contract with you, your consent, our legitimate interests (such as securing and improving the Service), and compliance with legal obligations.
4. We Do Not Sell Your Data
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use the contents of your uploaded files to train machine learning models or to serve advertising. We share information only as described in Section 7.
5. Customer Data and Our Role as a Processor
When you upload files to the Service, you remain responsible for the data they contain. With respect to Customer Data, you act as the "controller" and we act as your "processor." This means:
- We process Customer Data only to provide and support the Service, and in accordance with your instructions as expressed through your use of the Service;
- We do not sell Customer Data, and we do not use the contents of your uploaded files to train machine learning models or for advertising;
- You are responsible for ensuring that you have the necessary rights, consents, and legal basis to upload and process any personal information contained in Customer Data;
- You are responsible for the accuracy, quality, and legality of Customer Data and the means by which you acquired it.
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures designed to protect Customer Data, as described in Section 9.
6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies for purposes such as keeping you signed in, remembering your preferences, maintaining security, and analyzing how the Service is used. Some cookies are strictly necessary for the Service to function, while others help us understand and improve performance.
You can usually control cookies through your browser settings. If you disable certain cookies, some features of the Service may not function properly. Where required by law, we will request your consent before placing non-essential cookies.
7. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers and subprocessors. We share information with third-party vendors who perform services on our behalf, such as cloud hosting and database infrastructure, authentication, payment processing, and analytics. These providers are authorized to use your information only as necessary to provide services to us. Our key service providers currently include:
- Supabase — database, authentication, and backend infrastructure;
- Google — authentication (Google Sign-In) and analytics;
- Cloudflare — hosting, content delivery, and security;
- Stripe — payment processing for paid plans and credit purchases.
- Legal compliance and protection. We may disclose information if required to do so by law, or in the good-faith belief that disclosure is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, protect our rights or property, prevent fraud or abuse, or protect the safety of any person.
- Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of all or part of our business, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Policy.
- With your consent. We may share information for other purposes with your consent or at your direction.
The specific providers we use may change over time. We will update this Policy as needed to reflect material changes.
8. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. We retain Customer Data (the contents of your uploaded files and processed datasets) until you delete it or close your account, after which it is deleted or anonymized within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. We may also retain certain information in backups for a limited period before it is overwritten.
9. Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. These measures include encryption in transit, access controls, and secure infrastructure provided by our hosting partners. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential.
10. International Data Transfers
We and our service providers may store and process information in countries other than the one in which you reside. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your country. Where we transfer personal information internationally, we take steps to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place as required by applicable law.
11. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, including the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you;
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information;
- Request deletion of your personal information;
- Request a copy of your information in a portable format;

12. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 16 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
13. Third-Party Links and Services
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or integrate with third-party services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties, and we encourage you to review their privacy policies.
